‘Tis the Season: “2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards: Winners”

It’s the end of the month, and that means another awards show! Awards season isn’t slowing down, even when it seems like it’s slowing down. I’ve always been trying to figure out why this particular awards show is my favorite, but I think there’s a simple reason behind that. It’s the shortest and most to the point. No obnoxious host or bad jokes, mainly, and it seems to breeze by quickly. How can you not like that?!

Tonight’s the night! The beginning of the end of awards season. We’ve heard the nominees and hopefully saw a few of them, and now it’s time to crown the winner. Up first, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s (HFPA) picks for the best films of 2016! It’s usually an interesting night, and a few surprises can sometimes be had, so let’s hope that tonight is no different. It wouldn’t be the same if it was completely predictable.

Awards and top ten lists are everywhere! That could only mean one thing. It’s December and awards season is well under way! What’s not to like about it? All your favorite actors, directors, writers, etc. (it really depends on the awards show) gathering together, film’s you love and don’t know a thing about being recognized, and ceremonies, that are seldom truly that funny or warrant the excessive length, go on for far too long. It’s almost a laundry list of reason’s not to focus on awards shows. Huh. Okay.

While it’s been in full swing for some time now, with the nominations for the 2017 Critics’ Choice Awards now having been announced (annoyingly early this morning), it’s a clear indicator that awards season is upon us, and won’t be slowing down any time soon. If you’re like me, you’re over the moon about this. If not, well, there’s really no helping you.

Award shows come every year, but mostly in a massive wave. You hardly have time to recover from the previous one, or two, when the next batch is upon you. It’s what makes awards season so exciting, especially as it honors film, but it’s also tiring. So much to keep track of and watch, how does one have time for anything else? So, when it does happen, that you have a lone awards show going on, it’s best to just enjoy the moment. It’ll be the last time you watch a ceremony and are completely relaxed.
