“29 to Life” Would Be a Better Sentence to Serve Than Watching This Film

ACM Films

Independent films are fine, but sometimes, there are those that should be skipped. Possibly not even mentioned in any kind of conversation or thought of by anyone. When it comes to the independent film, I can handle just about any kind of story, as that’s half the draw. But looks can be deceiving. It’s the chance you take on really, really, really independent films, which is, let’s face it, what this is. You can’t win ’em all.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” Grow and Shrink in First Full Trailer

Marvel Studios

When one comic book film opens, another is waiting in the wings. No, not “Deadpool 2”, which I’m just as excited about, but this one. The sequel to a surprisingly fun action comedy. How many times can you say that and genuinely mean it?

“Friday the 13th (2009)” May Be Fun For Some, But Is Largely A Waste Of Time

Paramount Pictures

When it comes to horror, there’s usually nothing worse than the remake. Sequels are bad in their own special ways, but at least with those, particularly those that have aged a few decades (a lot of them, if not most), they seem to now revel in how bad they are. For those sequels and remakes coming out now, of which many are beyond unnecessary, the same can’t be said of them. They’re just bad and never seem to be more than that, particularly when the studios, writers and directors behind them, among so many others, never try to learn from the many mistakes made in the films that came before.

The 2018 Academy Awards Winners Were Announced With Little Surprise

A.M.P.A.S.

It’s here!!! At long last, the 90th Academy Awards has arrived!!! I’ve been waiting for so long! And that’s all I can say. Up until tonight’s ceremony (5pm PT), I hadn’t even made any predictions. ANY. It’s truly the most disappointing thing I’ve done this year. Here’s hoping my predictions aren’t wrong. Well, too wrong. I’m trying to do better than last year, which was seriously abysmal.

“Mary Poppins Returns” and It’s Wonderful to See Her in the First Teaser

Disney

When I first heard about this teaser, during the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony, I wrote on Twitter revivquel. Why? Because apparently it’s been so long since I’ve had to come up with a new word, I forgot the one I was already using. So, it’s not a revivquel, but a rebootquel. I’m not sure if that’s better. Time will tell.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Looks Amazing And Full Of Darkness In First Trailer

Lucasfilm/Disney

Anticipation. It’s a killer. Fortunately not a real life one, but for some people it may as well be. The time between a first photo or trailer is just too long and it doesn’t move fast enough. How is one supposed to manage? The intervening months might not be filled with plenty else to get excited about, and then as the film’s release date draws nearer, plus some nagging from entertainment news outlets, it becomes harder to brush off and live without some idea of what the finished film will have in store for audiences. In some ways, it might just be easier to forgo a new trailer altogether. At least then, the anticipation can mostly be squashed.

It’s Adventure Time With The First ‘Tomb Raider’ Trailer

Warner Bros.

Note: This piece was originally published on Creators.co.

The reboot is inevitable. No matter how much we hope that a film franchise will just stay as it is, no matter the level of success, it’s only a matter of time until a new incarnation arises. For some, that’s okay. Sometimes a good thing. But a great thing? That’s hard to judge from a single trailer or other images released as part of a longer marketing campaign. Only time will tell whether it was a good idea or not.
