10 Years: “Waitress”

Some films you know you loved the first time, but can’t remember the why. Perhaps it’s been years since you last saw it. Perhaps there’s something else within the film that when viewed you can instantly connect with. Whatever it is, another viewing of said film may definitely be in order. If you don’t rediscover what it is that made you love it the first time, maybe you can at least learn something else. That’s the beauty of rewatching a film you haven’t seen in some time. At First Glance: “Paris Can Wait”

When it comes to film surprises, the best kind tend to be of the indie variety. With more freedom to tell a story, one that major studios wouldn’t dream of touching, there’s a better chance that the directors vision will remain intact. While it’s not a complete guarantee that the final film will be good, at least you’ll know that the director and writer will have tried something new. That’s more than you can say for most other studio films. Continue reading

Valentine’s Day is upon us once more, which means, it’s time to break out the romantic comedies and sentimental films that we all love to watch on this day. Even if you’re not big on celebrating this day, or even decorating all that much, it still seems impossible to resist popping in at least one romantic film or watching one on TV. Maybe it’s just the whole holiday craze (which is what I call it), where you watch films that correspond with the given holiday. Whatever the reason you choose to watch an appropriate holiday themed film, it very well could be the reason you decide to skip the classics and try something new. Continue reading

On Second Thought: “27 Dresses”

The rom-com is a film where you spend most of your time asking the question, “Where have I seen that before?” Sadly, you know that answer, but if you’re like me, at least while you’re watching the film, you can get past that. Hopefully the writer(s) and director have done a decent enough job to make watching the film somewhat enjoyable and worth it. If not, you’ll be quickly adding that film to the list of recycled rom-com’s you’ve seen and been disappointed by. And, let’s face it, you were probably going to add that film to the list no matter what. It’s what happens with most of these films. Continue reading

On Second Thought: “New Year’s Eve”

Sometimes with a holiday themed film it just needs to be a distraction. It can be any level of entertaining, so long as it does the trick for the viewer. It’s all we can really expect from some as they’re mere attempts to cash in on a particular holiday. Continue reading

Recently: “The Holiday”

What’s a holiday film without romance being in the mix? Just another holiday film. While just another holiday film isn’t a terrible thing, sometimes one needs a little more to get into the holiday spirit. If it’s in the form of a romance film, hopefully it’s a good one. Continue reading

10 Years: “Monster-In-Law”

Some romantic comedies just never get old. Okay, that’s not true, they may, mostly because they weren’t good to begin with, and I mean that from the standpoint of the individual viewer. Some have always been special to us, and no matter what others think, they remain just as fun as the first time around. Continue reading
