“Friday the 13th (2009)” May Be Fun For Some, But Is Largely A Waste Of Time

Paramount Pictures

When it comes to horror, there’s usually nothing worse than the remake. Sequels are bad in their own special ways, but at least with those, particularly those that have aged a few decades (a lot of them, if not most), they seem to now revel in how bad they are. For those sequels and remakes coming out now, of which many are beyond unnecessary, the same can’t be said of them. They’re just bad and never seem to be more than that, particularly when the studios, writers and directors behind them, among so many others, never try to learn from the many mistakes made in the films that came before.

‘The Strain’ Series Finale Ends As It Should, But Is Somehow Missing Something Important

FX

Note: This piece was originally published on Creators.co.

Something wicked this way comes, but not for long as this is the final episode. It’s been known for some time, but even when you prepare for the series end of any TV show, it doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. It also doesn’t mean that it’ll be the best experience in the world. Not all series finales are created equal. It’s more a roll of the dice, so hopefully if you’re a fan, you have enough faith in the writers. While some series enders are instant classics and elevate the series to a whole new level, or the level it deserved from the beginning, some just are. Neither good nor bad, but more in the middle.

‘Halloween (2007)’ Lacks Scares And Shows Why It Still Sucks 10 Years Later

Dimension Films

Remakes alone have a bad reputation, most with good reason, but when the film in question is a remake of a notable, classic, and still highly praised film, it’s even harder to accept. What could possibly be done that’ll not only show that it was worth it, but truly allow for the new film to stand out on its own? I feel we’re all still seeking out an answer to that question. And as far as horror is concerned, it’s one that won’t be able to be answered any time soon, if ever.

‘Body Snatchers’ Is The Worst Remake Of The Bunch

Warner Bros.

Note: This piece was originally published on Creators.co.

Remakes. I hate remakes because they end up like this film. Dreadful, uninteresting, not scary in the slightest, and so many other things I’m not thinking of at the moment. I truly thought it would be a good idea to revisit this particular remake, but I was wrong. Live and learn, and sometimes regret.

‘Channel Zero: No-End House’ Brings Fear And Terror In First Trailer

SyFy

Note: This piece was originally published on Creators.co.

Fear is a powerful thing. When it comes to film and television writers know just how to tap into that, most of the time. As time goes on, what once scared so many might not scare any. So, people get creative. The previous things you were afraid of will probably take a back seat, as this series will awaken new ones. Things you never knew you could be afraid of, will become the closest thing to a living nightmare.

‘Event Horizon’ Offers Up Fear And Scares 20 Years Later

Paramount Pictures

Note: This piece was originally published on Creators.co.

When it comes to horror films, it’s tough to figure out where genuine scares and thrills will be found. What will it take to get you to respond? How would you respond? How do you hope to respond? I guess it all depends on what type of horror film you’re seeing. Perhaps it also depends on when the film was made. Some films, no matter how old or how much hype surrounds them or doesn’t in some cases, just can’t be effective. You can try all you want, but you’ll never find it scary. And others can flat out surprise you.

Torture Porn Is Back In First ‘Jigsaw’ Trailer

Lionsgate

Note: This piece was originally published on Creators.co.

As it turns out, a studio doesn’t even have to wait 10 years before deciding that a reboot is in order. Making things even more fun, is the fact that this film isn’t just a reboot, but a sequel. So, in this case, a sequoot. Yes, I’m still working on making that a thing. The only question now, as far as the finished film is concerned is, Will it be worth it at all or just be a quick money grab? Mind you, it’s still an obvious money grab regardless.
