Pilot: “Mary Kills People”

The medical drama is nothing new to TV, which could be good or bad depending on the overall series. The ones that stand out somehow manage to do something truly different and refreshing enough, while maintaining an overall compelling narrative that keeps you coming back for more. The ones that have a specific theme at its core seem to be even rarer, and so it’s pretty much up in the air on whether or not it’ll be worth watching. Continue reading

Series End: “Bates Motel”

The way one responds to the end of a series is never predictable. It could be the best experience ever, even when really emotional. Or, it could just be okay and achieve enough of what you hope for. Sometimes though, a series finale hits all the right notes, that you not only know it was a good way to end, but that the series itself maintained what made it worth watching in the first place, and that it was worth every minute of invested time. Continue reading

Series End: “Switched at Birth”

While there will always be another drama series on television to keep you entertained, it’s rare to find one that aims to achieve so much. Telling a good story with well developed characters is a goal, of course, but it’s not the only one. A new kind of juggling act must be attempted in order to get it right. And that’s after you consider the fact that this television show you’re watching (or watched in my case), is already doing what the majority have failed to do for decades. Continue reading

At First Glance: “Girlboss”

It wouldn’t be a new month without a new original series coming from the biggest name in streaming. The people in charge know you have plenty of time to watch what’s new, on top of all the returning shows and other original programming that’s put out. And I can’t forget the other acquired content. What’s sleep? Who needs that? You’ve got your new best friend and can’t wait to obsess over what types of antics she gets into. Everything else, per usual with Netflix, can wait. Continue reading

Series End: “Grimm”

Grimm - Season 6

While it’s an inevitable conclusion, the ending of any TV series is still one that’s difficult to accept. So many emotions floating around, along with some expectations that don’t need to be all that high, and it’s kind of surprising anyone tunes in at all. Will you be disappointed? Did you set your expectations within reason, but still hope what’s given goes far above them? Did you bring enough tissues? And so many more questions follow us into the final episode. It may be a tough thing to accept, but as they say, all good things must come to an end.

Rewind: “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” A 20th Anniversary Special

Every television series has to start somewhere. Even if the show doesn’t become a beloved classic, in whatever form that takes, it could become a slightly successful one or a quickly cancelled series, but there’s always a beginning. Some are more memorable than others, and some just do what they’re supposed to. Introduce you to the world and characters of a series you hopefully stuck around with for however long it was on. Continue reading

Pilot: “The Good Fight”

Another year, another spinoff. However, unlike with most others, even if I do end up watching them or trying to, this one is one I was genuinely excited about. From the absolute beginning. When I heard it was being developed and then shot, I couldn’t help but be intrigued and thrilled. When I heard who was returning I knew this was well worth setting high hopes for. Now that it’s arrived, where does it stand amongst all the other spin-offs that have come and gone or are still on the air? Continue reading
