Catching Up: “Westworld (1973)”

There’s some kind of draw when it comes to classic films. And then when you pick you’re either rewarded with greatness, or supremely let down. If it’s the latter, then that’s simply unfortunate and there’s nothing you can do about it. Continue reading

At First Glance: “Captain America: Civil War”

Occasionally there are sequels worth getting excited about. It’s simply the way the previous film was handled that makes one want to get all kinds of exccited for it. In this case, that’s pretty much all it has, as it takes several other films to tell a story, some of which are iffy at best. Continue reading

‘Tis the Season: “2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards Nominations”

Awards season has technically been upon us for some time. I, for some ridiculous reason, choose to not pay all that much attention to anything not involving the typical awards everyone else pays attention to. So, what’s that reason? There’s just too many to keep track of, and some seem to sneak up on you when you’re not paying attention. Continue reading

10 Years: “Syriana”

Some films, no matter how much good stuff you’ve heard, deserve to never be seen. If you see them, and ultimately hate them, then it’s all on you. Or, as can happen, you managed to do the impossible and not hear anything about the film, or even stumble upon news on the film. Continue reading

Recently: “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2”

As most film franchises don’t end, or seem to be ended for long, you seldom get the opportunity to have one end the way you expect and deserve. The end could just be so-so, and you may feel cheated by all the dedication you poured in. It really is too much to ask for a really good ending, or expect one. Nothing is ever a given, especially when dealing with book adaptations. Continue reading

On Second Thought: “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I”

IMG_0047The rewatch. Always an interesting experience, especially before the final film in the series. If you’re lucky, you’ll still really enjoy the film and be excited for the next one. If not, well, then, there’s no helping you.

The Lionsgate film “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1”, is still the perfect bridge between the second and final films in a franchise.

I wrote about this film last year, after seeing it in theaters, and wasn’t sure how to approach it for this rewatch session, in preparation for the final film. So, reblog it is! I reread what I wrote last year, and I still pretty much agree with everything I said. The film is an incredibly deep character driven film, more than the others, and gives us a great view in the way things work in District 13 and how politics works in this district too, among other things I stated at the time. So, enjoy this short blurb and check out the original post for my full thoughts!

Past, Present, Future in TV and Film

IMG_0372-0.JPGAs a film series continues the feeling of being tired from the same thing can sometimes pop up. The reason or reasons, may be varied, but with a long running franchise, it’s almost unavoidable.

On Second Thought: “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

Sequels surprise us every once in a while. They get a bad rap (mostly deserved) but sometimes to the detriment of other sequels in any given series. A specific series can only exist because of sequels, so whether we like them or not, they’re necessary. Continue reading
